Valenki - bohemian felted boots

Valenki are traditional Russian winter footwear
Hand painted felted boots
They are made by felting wool felt and are essentially felt boots. Traditionally they come without a sol and worn with 'galoshi' (rubber or plastic cover) to protect the soles from water and wear. I remember wearing Valenki in the kindergarten back in Moscow, so did everyone else 😍 Valenki used to be a traditional foot wear in Russia, but then they became seen as unpractical mostly in the cities.

Today, when we witness revival of ethnic and eco friendly clothing, valenki become a popular choice for bohemian boots for organic clothes lovers.
Valenki are warm felted highboots made from dried sheep’s wool, they are quite soft and get the form of the human's sol. They are traditionally worn for walking on dry snow when the weather is frosty, so they best place for them would be a ski resort ⛷🎿
The best ones are either hand painted:

or hand embroidered:

Gypset guide to Mykonos

What do you think of when someone says 'Mykonos'..

White cubic houses with rhododendron flowers, stairs going to wooden blue coloured doors, narrow streets forming a labyrinth, toy churches and windmills.. You don't think of high-end beach clubs that beat St Tropez and Ibiza or Trevis Kalanick with his security guards descending from his yacht. But that's what you have to think of now. Within the last couple of years with a help of social media Mykonos became Mecca for jet-setters and following them wannabes. It has traditionally been it-place-to-be especially throughout July, but today the season starts early May and finishes late September.. St Tropez and Sardinia have it in their dreams..

Every year new hotels open their doors, new beach clubs emerge and new night joints pop up.

Here is our Gypset vision of Mykonos:

Where to stay:

    Santa Marina Resort Mykonos
  • Santa Marina Resort - the best ever hotel in Mykonos. Nice crowd guaranteed, the only con is that your villa can be located quite far from the beach
